St Albans School saving labour using eROK

St Albans School, recent winners of The IOG School, College, University Sports Club Grounds Team of the Year for 2013 recently trialled Fleet's eROK for  2 weeks.

The eROK proved to be a massive success and easily halved the amount of man hours spent on line marking at the School's large sports ground. During the  trial, the eROK was mainly used by Darren and Jason, St Albans main line marking staff.

The time released from line marking by using the eROK enables that labour to be used on other tasks around the School. This means the eROK will quickly cover its cost and save many man hours through the course of a year.  The pictures show Darren Symonds using the eROK.

"Watford Football Club's Lloyd Doyley waves to the camera on his way past to a warm up session at UCL Union's Sports Ground. Adrian Simm, Sports Ground Manager, is pictured on the far right, with his groundstaff, from right to left, Steve Read, Burt Rowson, Mark Rolf and Alan Taylor.

UCL are proud new owners of Fleet's BeamRider laser system plus the eROK ride on system.

The new equipment will be used with Fleet's Standard paint and  will help maintain and improve the quality of the line marking at UCL. UCL have 3 pitches that are for the sole use of Championship side Watford FC plus numerous other pitches for their own students use".

Having been asked recently to initial mark some pitches for the local council, Alec and Iain started late one afternoon and before they knew it, it was dark.
But, of course, with the BeamRider Laser System, it doesn't matter, the job can still be done in the dark!!

Clive Liddiard MSc., Head Groundsman (on left) and his colleagues, James Duffield Deputy Head Groundsman (centre) and Gareth Hunt (on right) take delivery of their new Gator fitted with Fleet’s BeamRider RX laser system and the Fastliner Kit.
They are the first School to use the Beamrider RX for ride on laser guided line marking. Clive and his colleagues have used the revolutionary pedestrian BeamRider SX for over 6 years now and saw the RX version as the natural progression of the SX.

The BeamRider RX will be used on the School’s natural grass pitches (4 rugby, 7 football and 6 Cricket tables for tram lines ) plus Clive plans to use it on their state of the art, £1.3m., IRB and FIFA approved 3G Synthetic surface for red and blue temporary lines using Fleet’s Colour XS and Reddispray”.

A big THANKYOU! to everyone who visited our stand at the recent show in Germany that we took part in. The whole week was a great success and we were able to give another sneak preview of our up and coming Ki Spray Marker. Ki should be available for general release in early 2014.

It was good to meet existing and new customers from around the World. This was the 12th show of the year for us and the last one in 2013. Events to keep an eye out for will be our Roadshows in 2014, where we will be showing the Ki and later in the year, another innovation, the MAQA, another World’s First!

These will be complimented by several International shows as well as SALTEX at Windsor Racecourse on the 02nd, 03rd and 04th September 2014.

Tuesday 15th October saw members of Fleet Line Markers descend once again on the superb facilities of Weetwood Sports Pavilion (University of Leeds) for another action packed Demonstration Day.

Although cloudy the weather was on our side so we set out to do what we do best and show what our products can do. The History of how Fleet started always seems to get our customers in to an inquisitive mood, which sets up the day well for questions on new and existing products we were showing.

First up was the Fastliner RX demo which showed off the BeamRider kit at its best.
Laser straight lines were achieved at speeds upwards of 20mph which, as you can imagine, brought about some very impressed faces from the crowd.

Phil followed this up by showing how the BeamRider can really give that perfect finish to a pitch by marking out the rugby training area, with many of the attendees getting involved and having a go themselves. Many were using the BeamRider for the first time and were achieving faultless lines in no time at all. Lunchtime provided some excellent food and refreshment and we thank our hosts for their hospitality. This was taken in the University's bar area where Iain played videos of various demonstrations done around the world showing paints being applied to various surfaces including synthetic and hard surfaces.

Non-dilutable paints were next on the list with Phil running the guests through an informative demonstration of one of Fleet Line markers latest developments "Standard" paint. This paint doesn't require any mixing with water and as a result is put down neat using low flow rate nozzles and a full size football pitch can be marked out with as little as 1 litre of paint. There was a great deal of interest shown in this paint and should anyone be interested in seeing this product, or any other featured on our website, they should contact their Fleet rep for a demo. Contact details for your rep can be found HERE.

Other equipment on display during the day were the athletic boom for helping with the marking of running tracks and the adjustable spray boom for the application of chemicals to bowling greens, cricket squares etc. These attachments emphasize how versatile a Kombi marker can be to the groundsmen.

Finally, it was competition time. With a Kombi marker up for grabs, the atmosphere turned tense. All that stood between the competitors and the prize was producing the straightest free handed line mark......blindfolded. Hilarity ensued with some almost completing a perfect circle and one unnamed gentleman ending up in the bushes!
The eventual winner was Darren Rhodes of Batley Bulldogs Who impressively kept a straighter line than most would with perfect vision! And that rounded up a great and ,hopefully, informative day.

All attendees were given a fleet goody bag containing various gifts and were wished safe travels for their way home.

We would like to end this post with a massive thank you to all the staff at Weetwood Pavilion for making us feel truly welcome once again and of course to the new and existing clients who made the day worth while, we hope you all learnt some valuable Fleet product information.

Gloucester RFC & Fleet

"Having recently sponsored Gloucester  RFC with blue and green HSC paint, yellow PMF paint and a Kombi with Wheeled Knib for The Fold Children's Orphanage in the Limpopo region of Africa, Iain and Chris were invited to a 1st team squad photo shoot at Kingsholm as a sign of their appreciation of our help.

It's apparent from the photos from The Fold a bit more than line marking and "zoning" went on. The children, and perhaps some Glos RFC staff!, had a bit of fun putting hand prints on the walls nearby.
Gloucester RFC plan to return to The Fold next year for their next project".

"The close partnership between Fleet and GRFC resulted in Fleet being contracted to mark out the car park at Kingsholm. The lines were painted with our PMF water based paint applied using the always impressive BeamRider Laser system.

Three days of glorious sunshine plus Fleet's famous Carrot Cake, Pork Rolls and cold beverages greeted our many visitors to our enormous stand at SALTEX 2013!

Our 20 staff manning the stand were kept busy every day showing and demonstrating our full and comprehensive range of machines and paints. Usually the first to arrive at the showground and the last to leave, everyone worked extremely hard and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
It was great to meet up with existing customers, as well as a great deal of potential ones. The new products, MAQA and Ki, were enthusiastically and positively received by all and we look forward to them being available over the coming months.

MAQA is one of our latest innovations to join the BeamRider family. MAQA is a GPS based system that will enable the operator to simply and quickly map out their sports fields and then remark time and time again with no further setting/mapping required. As with the BeamRider, when compared to conventional marking, there will be a saving of both time and therefore money. Ki is another of our latest innovations that was at SALTEX. Customers, new and old, were given “private viewings” of the Ki by our CEO, Iain McGuffie.

Iain has been largely responsible for the whole Ki design project with input from various colleagues and customers. Ki has 5 patents pending and is absolutely brimming with unique features giving the user numerous benefits over other machines.

On our demonstration area, the competition, Human vs. Machine, gave visitors the opportunity to try to overmark a BeamRider laser straight 20 metre line in as short a time as possible. For taking part, visitors were given a free Fleet T Shirt. Nobody managed to beat the BeamRider but a few did very well. There was also the possibility of trying out all of our machines and paints from wheel to wheel to the ride-on BeamRider RX.

Also on show were a few stencils painted using our vibrant range of coloured paint called Colour XS. The logos include Fleet, the new MAQA logo, Tiger Turf plus 3 IOG logos at the neighbouring IOG stand and the Landscape & Amenity stand.
